Vonage will bring expertise in network-powered solutions and communications APIs to the Girls Who Code Pathways program, which helps students build skills and learn about tech careers directly from professionals. The sessions will arm students with early exposure and first-hand experience with the technologies of the future. 

A career that connects technology with human needs

Vonage UX Designer Muskan Garg recently led an interactive session with Girls Who Code, introducing user experience (UX) as a career that connects technology with human needs. The session focused on the difference between technology and user experience, and how both come together to create meaningful digital products. The girls were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and actively participating throughout.

Muskan shared how a simple interview task, creating sketches for a popcorn ordering app, sparked her journey into UX. Through real-life examples and an overview of her design process at Vonage, she highlighted the role of empathy in understanding users and creating better experiences. She also introduced the participants to other creative career paths, including user interface design and graphic design.

Reflecting on the experience, Muskan said, "Speaking with the girls reminded me of the curiosity I had when I was exploring technology careers. It was inspiring to see them already building projects with the potential to make a real impact. I hope the session showed them that involving users throughout ideation, design, and implementation is a fundamental part of building successful digital products."

Vonage developer marketing specialist Diana Pham has found the Girls Who Code experience to be “an absolute highlight of my year. Being in a room with that much energy and curiosity was just so inspiring.”

A seemingly simple discussion on accessibility turned into a moment of inspiration. As is so often the case in dev work, the work began with a question. “I asked the room, 'How many of you are first-gen Americans?' — and a whole bunch of hands went up. That opened up this incredible conversation about how accessibility is also about designing for second-language English speakers.”

It’s an experience that benefits the Girls Who Code attendees … and mentors, too. “That’s really what mentorship is all about. I get to take everything I’ve learned — the wins, the mistakes, the whole journey — and pass that context to them now.
