Vonage Network APIs Achieve SOC 2 Type 2 Compliance

This article was updated on June 23, 2025

Read on to learn how Vonage’s SOC 2 Type 2-compliant Network APIs can deliver enhanced flexibility, accessibility, and security for your business.

Last year, over 350 million people were hit by data breaches, leakage, and exposure. According to research by IBM, nearly 30% of businesses will experience a data breach in the next two years, with the average cost a whopping $4.88M in 2024, a 10% increase over 2023 and highest total ever.

With this kind of risk environment, potential customers want proof that they can trust you to keep their sensitive data safe. One of the best ways to provide this assurance is a SOC 2 Type 2 report.

A SOC 2 Type 2 report is a Service Organization Control (SOC) audit of how a cloud-based service provider handles sensitive information. It covers both the suitability of a company’s controls and its operating effectiveness.

Having an independent assessment of security safeguards is a cornerstone of trust, covering five total trust service principles (TSPs): security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy.

Vonage is one of the first companies with SOC 2 Type 2 compliance for Network APIs,  arming us with a new level of trust. It confirms to Vonage’s customers and prospects that we are serious and transparent about security practices. The report shows — rather than tells — that we have proven to protect customer data.

SOC 2 Type 2 compliance assures that Vonage Network APIs:

  • Have the required data security controls in place to protect customer data against unauthorized access

  • Can detect anomalies and security incidents across the entire ecosystem

  • Can quickly repair damage and restore functionality in the event of a data breach or system failure

Vonage Network APIs

Vonage Network APIs open the door to new capabilities from mobile carriers, also known as Communication Service Providers (CSPs), going beyond traditional SMS and voice services.

Developed based on the CAMARA standards, an open-source initiative within the Linux Foundation, this allows developers to access network capabilities across different networks and countries, so applications can work consistently across different CSPs worldwide. Vonage Network APIs are designed with an eye toward flexibility, accessibility, and security. Now developers can unlock advanced network capabilities to build far better applications — faster.

Vonage Network APIs provide built-in security and privacy. Data such as location and user equipment is difficult to standardize across multiple networks; every operator's means of storing it and making it available is different. A well-planned API network abstracts this level of access, making it possible for individual app creators to take advantage of the services they need without giving them or their creations a level of data access that might be problematic.

Standards and commonalities allow network operators to enforce precise security measures despite the inherent complexity of making multiple channels speak to one another. This makes important needs like network-powered user authentication and fraud prevention faster to implement, easier to manage, and generally stronger than when a fragmented approach is taken.

The benefits of Vonage Network APIs

Accessible through the Network Registry, Vonage Network APIs offer a frictionless experience that enhances security without compromising user convenience.

For example, the Number Verification API safeguards sensitive information in an era of increasing fraudulent exchanges. This enhanced security and user-friendly authentication enables CSPs to deliver robust and reliable service, fostering customer trust and loyalty in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

Network APIs empower application developers to verify if a phone number has undergone recent SIM card changes. Utilizing the Vonage SIM Swap API helps significantly reduce the impact of account takeover fraud — mitigating negative impacts on both service providers and their customers.

Vonage Network APIs and compliance

Vonage has brought to market new Network APIs that drive value through our communications and network API platform. This cutting-edge experience of Network APIs, powered with a 5G integration, creates a seamless and immersive digital landscape.
